The service mesh enables fine-grained traffic control, supporting advanced deployment strategies such as canary releases and blue-green deployments. This allows new versions of services to be rolled out gradually, monitored in real time, and rolled back instantly if issues are detected.
Istio also enforces secure communication between services using mutual TLS, reducing the attack surface and improving internal security posture. Policies can be applied consistently across services without requiring changes to application code.
By centralizing traffic management and security at the platform level, the service mesh reduces complexity within individual services while improving overall reliability, visibility, and control.
